Gojo vs Makima Post Blog Mini Q/A

Gojo vs Makima Post Blog Mini Q/A

  1. Q: Are you sure Makima cannot Control Gojo? She did not even consider the Darkness Devil to be her equal, and it is a primordial Devil that embodies darkness.

A: Beyond the points in the Blog, Makima is rather inconsistent when implementing Control on strong opponents. Rather than Control the 20% Gun Devil right off the bat, she chooses to battle it, and has to bring out 6 other controlled minions to do so properly. She even notes she had no other choice than to Control Aki and Angel for the confrontation that was about to happen.

Also despite not seemingly holding the Darkness Devil in the same regard as Pochita, she still cannot Control it, and ends up losing the fight with it, only escaping by using the Hell Devil

She also opts not to Control Kishibe, despite him being vastly weaker than her. This even considering he almost succeeded in sending her to Hell literally minutes prior.

She also doesn't take control of Reze until she's completely defeated (Even bringing along Angel to beat her) and you can make the same argument for Quanxi.

Makima rather consistently does not take over “strong” opponents until she has beaten them in combat. Gojo easily falls under this category given his sheer overwhelming might.

Update: Upon rechecking both anime and manga, it is clear Gojo was able to break out of the willpower removing effects of Hanami's flower field, showing he has a degree of resistance to Makima's ability. Experienced Sorcerers can also protect their soul from Mahito's spiritual and biological attacks, which also involves protecting their mind from his shown control. This most likely how Gojo resisted the flower effect.

One thing that currently has no answer is if Gojo can resist Makima's ability to edit memories. Chapter 74 and 75 of Chainsaw Man shows Makima can seemingly implant false memories into others or delete/suppress existing memories, shown with Aki and Angel respectively. This is likely an extension of her Control ability, as most likely used to change the personality of the Hybrids to serve her against Pochita. Chapter 74 shows she can apply this effect even before she forces her target into a contract with herself.

The only equivalent to this in Jujutsu Kaisen is Yuji's subconscious ability to insert false memories used on Choso, which was never used on Gojo. Gojo's main arguments of resisting are purely hypothetical, in the form of constant mental refreshment and potentially using curse reversal on himself with positive energy. Both arguments are very much subjective at this time.

  1. Q: Makima’s Contract is clear cut. Gojo cannot permanently put down Makima. Why did the blog say he can?

A: Makima’s contract is very much “Your mileage may vary”. It is not as concretely defined as some claim.

In chapter 96 and 97, Kishibe and Denji give us the most definitive look into how the contract works. Denji goes on to focus on “Physical Attacks” as something the contract can overcome. Oddly, Kishibe seems to imply people are dying while trying to rush Denjo on his plan, despite Makima at the time being pieces of meat in his refrigerator.

Makima is only ever seen “transferring” physical attacks in the series. She was going to be affected by the Hell Devil sending her to Hell, which is part of the reason why she called for Pochita. She was also affected by Powers' blood from Denji’s chainsaw, though you could chalk this up to be caused by Denji’s lack of true killing intent.

Regardless, the Gojo verdict is more so saying:

Unlimited Void’s information dump is more like a natural occurrence of a location rather than an attack. It's kind of like Jogo’s Domain which has passive heat that kills people and is not an attack sent out with intent.

Sure, the initiation of the Domain can be seen as an attack but there's no actual “attack” to transfer. During the set initiation it is more like both are being sent inside of a realm.

Domains are simply manifestations of the Inner Mindscape, and the information dump happens because the realm is Limitless itself, literal Infinity. It would be different than Gojo using the properties of the Domain to get in a sure hit with something like Red.

Like what if Makima walked in during a storm and was struck by a natural bolt of lightning? Would she be revived? Probably not. The transfer works on the perception of the attacker, given the loophole Denji invoked. Makima's Control powers are very explicitly about perception too, and even Yoru's powers are the same way. It seems heavily implied the last 2 Horsemen will also have powers based on perception. A storm has no perception, it is merely a force of nature. The same applies to the passive functions of a Domain, a Domain has no perception.

As such, Makima would not be able to transfer the information overload. You could argue she could transfer Hollow Purple (since it is a physical attack with killing intent), but she would eventually die to the Overload.

Update: As confirmed with Yoru in part 2, all Four Horsemen Devils' abilities (like Makima) work off the perception.

  1. The blog proposed a possible resistance Makima had to Cosmos. Would that not counter Unlimited Void?

A: Upon re-reading chapter 70, it was discovered Yoshida and Kishibe are right behind Makima when Cosmos supposedly tried using Halloween. Neither are affected mentally in any way, which suggests Halloween did in fact not use the move here on Makima. The proposal was always a very big “what if”, mainly addressed due to the argument being posted recently on Space Battles.

To add on, the blog also shows Unlimited Void shoves more information into the brain, as Halloween is at most a singular “infinite dump”, while UV is several per WoG.
